Lead Visitor Use Assistant (Fee Collection)

Collects appropriate fees at park entrance station, visitor center, campground and other visitor contact station following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Safeguards funds collected. Distributes and balances work assignments for lower graded employees and ensure tasks are completed, oversees the status and progress of duties assigned to employees, provides instructions to employees both written and verbally to accomplish goals. Provides guidance, assistance, training to new employees. Operates an electronic cash register, performs opening and closing shift functions, issues entrance receipts, park passes and federal passports. Incumbent serves as front-line representative of the park.In many instances the incumbent is the first and only contact the visiting public has with an NPS employee. Incumbent works at an entrance station, visitor center, campground or other visitor contact stations. Deals with a high volume of personal contacts while maintaining a professional demeanor. Provides answers to recurring visitor questions concerning the specific park area. Explains the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession-operated facilities and services, and campground availability; distributes maps, brochures, and other printed material; provides directions and routes of travel through the park; and informs visitors of potential hazards. Completes shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold and all machine transactions from the shift using journal and receipt tapes and a register of voided transactions. Must prepare written reports in accordance with park policy and procedures. Gathers information from reporting parties concerning accidents/incidents within the area to notify appropriate personnel. Performs traffic control and treatment of medical issues within your level of training. Performs minor maintenance duties to ensure a clean and safe work environment. Qualifications:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
providing resource orientation, disseminating information, collecting and accounting for fees, leading others involved in fee collection or visitor orientation programs, and working with technology and software used in revenue and fee management. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
At least one full year of graduate-level study (18 semester hours or equivalent) that directly applies to the work of the position business, education, and finance. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. IMPORTANT NOTE:

One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
